Lamisil Once® International Footvolley Championship

Yellowave Beach Sports Centre, Brighton July 21/22 2007

Brazilian brilliance came back to Brighton for the third year running as the coastal town hosted the 2007 Footvolley International sponsored by Lamisil Once® at the Nivea Sun Yellowave.

Over 500 people packed the venue to watch sixteen international teams from Brazil, Spain, Holland, and the UK, as well as one of the world’s best female team - also from Brazil – participate in the two-day tournament.

The final between last years defending champions from Brazil Luigui & Dirceu and Danny & Dennis from Holland gave a footvolley masterclass in a closely fought match - the Brazilians clinching the title in a heart-stopping game 16-14 in the deciding set.

Commenting on their win, Brazilian team captain Dirceu said:  “This is our first international title and I’m so happy.  It was a very tough final, the Dutch got to match point but we did it.  This is a great sport and I would be so proud if this was officially recognised in time for the Olympics in 2016.”

On the weekend when many parts of the UK were under water, Brighton was blessed with a hot sunny weekend and the action didn't disappoint the spectators. Daniel Magness was back again this year to show off his magical freestyle skills and just before a thrilling final, England No.1 Team David & James were cheered on to win the Shield Competition for their first international honours.

The event received an unprecendented amount of coverage in the UK media; BBC Sportsround & Sky Sports from TV, the London & Brighton Metro, Mens Health Magazine, The Brighton Argus, The Chester Chronicle, and countless radio stations all over the country.

The UKFVA wants to thank the team from Lamisil Once for helping make this happen and we look forward to working with them next year. With their support we hope to continue to grow footvolley in the UK and take footvolley all the way to the Olympics!
